Celestial Sunrise & Sunset: for the first time on the wrist

Patek Philippe watch with celestial dial and moon phase, steel case and black leather strap, on the wrist.

Celestial Sunrise & Sunset: the first sunrise and sunset indication on a Patek Philippe wristwatch.

Astronomy holds a singular place in Patek Philippe's history, having inspired some of the Manufacture's most complex creations over the decades. At the turn of the millennium, the Star Caliber 2000 became one of the great examples of this tradition. This extraordinary pocket watch brought together astronomical indications including the hours of sunrise and sunset, a celestial chart, the apparent movement of the stars, and various moon-related information. In 2001, Patek Philippe brought part of this universe to the wrist with the Sky Moon Tourbillon Ref. 5002, its first double-faced Grand Complication wristwatch. The following year saw the arrival of the first Celestial, dedicated to the mechanical representation of the sky, the stars, and the Moon. Since then, this family has become one of the most recognisable expressions of Patek Philippe's astronomical watchmaking.

More than two decades later, the Manufacture takes a new step in this history. Unveiled at Watches & Wonders 2026, the Celestial Sunrise & Sunset Ref. 6105G-001 is the first Patek Philippe wristwatch to indicate the hours of sunrise and sunset.

A function present in Patek Philippe's historic, highly complex creations now finds, for the first time, a place on a wristwatch from the Celestial collection.

At the heart of the watch is the new self-winding caliber 240 C LU CL LCSO, developed over more than five years and covered by six patent applications. With 426 components and a thickness of just 7.93 mm, it integrates the mechanisms responsible for the new sunrise and sunset indications, displayed by two dedicated hands. These functions are joined by a system that tracks the switch between daylight saving and standard time, adjusting the time and solar indications simultaneously. Everything was designed to keep civil time and the astronomical phenomena shown on the watch in alignment. The sapphire-crystal dial preserves the identity of the Celestial collection. An ellipse frames the portion of sky visible from Geneva and other cities at the same latitude, while different discs reproduce the apparent movement of the stars and the Moon's orbit and phases. The date is indicated on the periphery by a red hand.

From a technical standpoint, the Ref. 6105G-001 extends a tradition deeply rooted in Patek Philippe's history, while its aesthetic takes on a clearly more contemporary expression. The 47 mm white gold case features an architecture inspired by space modules. An X motif runs along the sides and case back, alternating polished and sandblasted surfaces and heightening the watch's futuristic character. The same design continues to the integrated black composite bracelet, creating a coherent and distinctly modern visual identity.

Having brought the sky to the wrist, Patek Philippe now adds a new dimension to its astronomical watchmaking. The Celestial Sunrise & Sunset Ref. 6105G-001 is not simply another astronomical complication: it is the Manufacture's first wristwatch to indicate the hours at which the sun rises and sets on the horizon.
